Lyme Disease

What you need to know….    Hart/Whippoorwill friends – thought some of you might find this helpful.  Did you know that some of your neighbors have contracted Lyme Disease in our community? If there is lyme disease here – it is probably in other rural areas as well – especially where there are deer that carry the ticks.  There are at least 4 people in our neighborhood that have been diagnosed with Lyme disease in the past year.My friend Julie was the first one to finally figure out what was wrong with her after years of health problems.  Then another neighbor who knew about her diagnosis got tested after his years of thinking he had fibromyalgia – and he tested positive.  This got another mom thinking about it since years ago she had removed a tick from her young son and brought it to the doctor to make sure it was all taken out.  A few days later he got a red ring around the area and she took him back to the pediatrician and he told her “we don’t have lyme disease in Florida.”  For the past 4 years he has been misdiagnosed with multiple diseases and they finally got him properly tested for lyme and now they are treating him.   Now there is a 5th grade girl recently diagnosed with it as well.  And these are only the educated people that know to ask to be tested for lyme – and know which test to request.  (one test is only 20% accurate – of course the insurance companies cover this one!)  If you have had multiple health issues like some of the symptoms below –   My neighbor is doing this to help educate the community – not to scare people.
I hope this info helps someone!

Lyme Disease is a bacterial infection from a tick bite. Half of those infected never see the tick that bit them. Lyme disease is often misdiagnosed as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, depression, learning disabilities, arthritis, sleep disorders, and hypochondria……just to name a few. If you are in doubt… have it checked.
